The College is pleased to report that Professor Charles Godfray CBE FRS, Hope Professor of Zoology at the University and Professorial Fellow of Jesus College has been knighted in Her Majesty's Birthday Honours list.  Charles is a world-leading entomologist and scholar who has had a major impact on future thinking on global food security. He co-created a new approach to evidence synthesis in controversial areas which led to the successful implementation of government policy in two extremely important areas: bovine tuberculosis and neonicotinoid pesticides. His work on insect population dynamics has been extremely influential in understanding insect population control, such as the biological control of agricultural pests and the genetic control of malaria and dengue vectors.

The Principal of Jesus College, Sir Nigel Shadbolt, said “Charles’ Knighthood is richly deserved recognition for all that he has done for science and Government. He has also been a tireless servant for his College, the Department of Zoology and the wider University. We are proud to count him amongst our Fellowship.”
