Hidden Treasures
Hidden Treasures
Renovation of the old Fellows' Library at Jesus College has unearthed many hidden treasures, including dozens of keys, each presumably secreted by its owner in a past century behind some favourite volume on one of the many shelves then lost or forgotten. Among the most intriguing finds is a fragment of a printing plate bearing text from Leviticus 19 of the King James Bible, found beneath the floor boards and brought into the light of day perhaps for the first time since the Library was built in 1677. Measuring 115 mm wide by 110 mm high, the fragment is shown here mirror-imaged for legibility.

Jesus College 1948
Jesus College 1948
"Our College", subtitled "A Film Impression of Jesus College Oxford in 1948", was made by students at Jesus as a gesture of thanks to an American university for support during the difficult years of the Second World War. Assisted by funding from the JCR, the University Film Society and the British Film Institute, willing amateurs borrowed equipment from every possible source to complete the project. The resulting 13-minute film includes scenes from tutorials, lectures, sporting events, meals, meetings and social activities, providing a delightful glimpse of student life at Oxford in the very different world of sixty years ago.
You can Watch a Clip from the film. The complete film has been transferred to DVD, and copies are available to buy for £10 each (including p&p). Please email the Development and Alumni Relations Manager for more information.
