Ms Alys Moody

BA, MPhil Lecturer in English alys.moody@jesus.ox.ac.uk

Academic Background

I hold a BA in English and French and an MPhil in English from the University of Sydney. While studying for my Masters, I was employed as a lectrice in the English department of Université Paris VII-Paris Diderot in France. I am currently working towards a DPhil in English at Jesus College, on the aesthetics of hunger in modernist and later twentieth-century literature.

Undergraduate Teaching

Paper 1 (Introduction to Literary Studies); Twentieth-Century Literature.

Research Interests

I have interests in European, Irish and American modernism, and post-war and contemporary literatures in English. I am particularly interested in the relation between literature and literary theory or philosophy in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and have additional interests in aesthetics, affect, literature and the visual arts, and theories of embodiment. My research at present is centrally concerned with Samuel Beckett. I am an editor of Limit(e) Beckett, an online journal of Beckett scholarship, and have book reviews published or forthcoming on Beckett scholarship in The Beckett Circle: Newsletter of the Samuel Beckett Society and The Comparatist.

Publications

'Tasteless Beckett: Towards an Aesthetics of Hunger.' Special Issue 'Hunger.' symploke (forthcoming 2011).
