In the first of a new series of online discussions for students, teachers and the general public called ‘Discussing What Really Matters,’ Jesus College is hosting a Forum on Race and Education this Friday 12th June at 10.30am.

The Forum will explore key issues around race and education in the 21st Century. 

Our panelists

The panel is:

Samira Ahmed, Journalist & Broadcaster

Patricia Daley, Vice Principal of Jesus College & Professor of Geography at Oxford

Adrian Clarke, Careers Leader, Ernest Bevin College

Paulina Kewes, Professor of English Literature and Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford

Clare Williams, alumna in English of Jesus College, Oxford

The event has been organised by our Access Fellow Dr Matthew Williams

The 90 minute discussion will cover:

 - What is the role of education in bringing about societal change in the UK?
 - Anti-Racism in the context of white privilege. What does this mean?
 - What needs to happen now to bring about racial equality? Including decolonizing the syllabus.
 - Personal testimonies - the black experience participants tell their stories


There will also be the opportunity for a Q&A at the end of the discussion if time permits.
