We are excited to announce that Jesus College, in partnership with St Catherine’s College and New College, will be helping to enhance the outreach provision for schools in all parts of Wales by forming the ‘Oxford Cymru’ outreach consortium.
At Jesus we firmly believe a diverse community is a stronger community, which is why we seek to attract and select the very best applicants based on their academic potential rather than their background. Our Access and Outreach programme offers and supports an extensive range of school visits, outreach programmes and activities for prospective students from non-selective state schools and under-represented groups.
This new Outreach Consortium will enable us to work with more students of mixed ages, teachers, and parents from Wales, to ensure that all talented students see Oxford as a realistic and achievable ambition. It will also further strengthen our existing links with schools and school students in Wales.
Dr Matthew Williams, our Access Fellow, said:
"We're thrilled to be teaming up with New College and St Catherine's College! Together we'll boost the University's access and outreach work in Wales. There's been a twenty percent rise in applications from Welsh state schools to Oxford in the last four years but there is still much to be done to ensure Wales is accurately represented at our university. There's a will, and now we have a way!"
To mark the announcement, the University has published a new Oxfordcymru website.
