We are recruiting for a Graduate Library Trainee. This vacancy is available to start from September 2024. Please note that this is a 12-month fixed-term post until August 2025.

The Trainee will work closely under the direction of the Librarian in ensuring the smooth operation of the three College libraries. The majority of the trainee’s time will be spent in the Meyricke Library, which has a stock of 35,000 books in all subjects taught at undergraduate level at Jesus College. The trainee will work from time to time in the adjoining Celtic Library, which holds 9,000 books and journal volumes supporting study and research in the Celtic languages of Welsh, Irish, Scottish Gaelic, Breton, Cornish, and Manx, and the historic Fellows’ Library, which houses an important collection of 11,500 books printed before 1800.

This post is intended to offer experience of librarianship for a postgraduate course in library management. The trainee will be expected to participate in the Bodleian Libraries’ trainee scheme, which offers a structured programme of training and visits. The trainee will also be encouraged to work on an individual project for service development; previous projects include organising publications by college members, standardising captions for rare books, and compiling provenance evidence.

Hours of Work

The full-time hours are 35 per week, working Monday – Friday.
