I wish you a very warm welcome to the Jesus College website. I hope that you will find our site informative, entertaining and helpful. You may be thinking of applying for a place or a post at the College, or wanting to keep in touch as an Old Member. You may be considering booking Jesus College as a venue for an event or conference, or just browsing.
Jesus College combines academic excellence in teaching and research with an informal, vibrant, and supportive community. We currently have 350 undergraduates, 230 graduates, 80 Fellows and 45 College lecturers.
Our students as well as our tutors come from a very wide range of backgrounds and cultures. We select our students on achievement and potential, with a higher than average proportion of state school undergraduates. 90% of our undergraduates come from the UK, and about half of our graduate students are international, coming from 33 countries. We are exceptionally generous in our accommodation, grants and bursaries for students.
Over 5,300 alumni are in touch with the College, spread across 84 countries. Over 800 of our Old Members came back to College in the last twelve months and we hope that that number will continue to rise.
The College was founded in 1571 by Queen Elizabeth I, at the request of a Welsh lawyer and clergyman, Hugh Price. The compact central College site has beautiful quadrangles tucked away off Turl Street, right in the heart of Oxford. We also have student accommodation in self-catering flats on our other sites in North and East Oxford.
The College welcomes conference and event guests during vacations, as well as visitors to the site in Turl Street.
I do hope that you enjoy your visit to the College’s website. Please do get in touch with us if you wish to find out more.
