Access & Outreach/
Seren Summer Schools

We are proud of our strong historic links to Wales, and the access programmes we run in collaboration with the Seren Network.

The Seren Network is a Welsh Government initiative dedicated to helping Wales’ brightest students in years 8-13 to achieve their full academic potential, and support their education pathway into leading universities in Wales, the UK, and overseas.

Each summer, we organise the Seren-Jesus College Summer Schools programme, for Year 12 Seren students. In early 2021we launched our largest programme yet, thanks to the benefaction of £1 million to our Welsh Access Fund from a Jesus alumnus and generous funding from the Welsh Government. In 2022, the programme reached 360 young people in Wales.

The Future Scholars Programme (formerly the International Summer School) is a massive open online course, or MOOC, making it flexible around other commitments over the summer. Participants will receive expert guidance through the university application process, as well as taster lectures from internationally recognised academics.

The Residential Summer School invites Seren learners in year 12 to spend a week living in Jesus College and getting the full Oxford experience! The programme is interdisciplinary and welcomes students interested in all subjects. Participants will take part in Oxford University-style teaching and receive guidance on university admissions.

No! Participation in our Summer Schools is free of cost. For the Residential Summer School, we will cover accommodation and catering costs, as well as reasonable travel costs.

Previous Seren Summer Schools

In the summer of 2023 we hosted TWO summer school programmes for Year 12 Seren learners:

This was a coordinated effort between Jesus College and the Welsh Government’s Seren Network. Furthermore, the online International Summer School is supported by and delivered in partnership with Equal Education Partners.

You can check out some of the lectures and seminars from previous summer schools and events on our YouTube channel!

If you have any questions about the Jesus-Seren Summer Schools programme do not hesitate to contact the Access Fellow, Dr Matthew Williams, on access.fellow@jesus.ox.ac.uk.
