Jesus Fellows announce musical event as part of Oxford 1871 project

Jesus College Fellows Professors Susan Doran and Paulina Kewes have a co-organised an upcoming musical event that will celebrate Oxford’s diversity, as part of the ongoing University project Oxford at the 150th Anniversary of the Universities Tests Act (1871): The Making of a Global and Diverse Unity.

The free event, A Musical Miscellany in Celebration of Diversity, takes place on 4th May 2022 at the Sheldonian Theatre (19.30 – 21.15). Bringing together musical artists who reflect the different voices of Oxford today, this evening of performances will celebrate diversity and inclusion across the city and the University. The line-up includes Harjinder Singh Lallie, Klezjammers, Younis Ghulam Nabi, New College Choir and OxfordShir. The event is supported by TORCH Oxford.

The Opening Oxford 1871 – project explores how Oxford has been transformed in the 150 years since the removal of religious restrictions on study and employment at the University, and investigate the real and perceived barriers that are experienced at the intersection of race and religion in the University in the 21st century. It brings together collaborators from across the University, including colleges, permanent private halls, the central Admissions and Digital Humanities departments, the Equality and Diversity Unit, the Race Equality Task Force (RETF), Bodleian Libraries, and Oxford University Press as well as faith organisations, the Museum of Oxford and others.
