I studied Classics at Exeter College, Oxford, from 1998-2002. After a year of pastoral work, I studied Theology and Religious Studies at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, while training for ordination at Westcott House, Cambridge. Ordained in 2006 in the Diocese of Coventry, I began my curacy in Rugby. Two years later I returned to academia part-time to study for a DPhil in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. I was awarded my DPhil in 2014 for my thesis “Prayers for Remembering in the Psalms”. I took up the post of Chaplain at Jesus in 2009.
Biblical Studies, specializing in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament (both old and new curriculum).
With parts of my thesis published as journal articles and book chapters, I am now developing two lines of thought arising from my early work. First I am focusing on memory in the context of ancient prayer texts; I will also be pursuing further study in the application of linguistic methods to Hebrew Bible/Old Testament hermeneutics. A third strand of current research considers the nexus of prayer and judgment within the cultic texts of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament.
My Lent Book on the Psalms, "Songs of the Spirit", is to be published by SPCK in October 2017.
Married to Adrian, together we enjoy music, the arts, walking (especially in Blenheim and Dorset), and good food and wine.
