Seeing double for student entrepreneur competition 2021

18 January 2021

We are delighted to announce that this year’s student inter-college entrepreneur competition – All-Innovate – will run not once, but twice! All-Innovate, which is run by the Oxford Foundry on behalf of the University, encourages students, regardless of discipline, to develop an entrepreneurial skill-set and generate ideas, to think commercially and build confidence in their presentation skills.

The first virtual pitching competition will take place during Hillary term 2021 with the final on 11th March, and the second in Trinity, with the final on 17th June. This means there are two opportunities for Jesus teams to succeed this year, with a tempting £10k for each winning team, and £5k each for two runners-up.

In 2019, a Jesus College team, led by alumnus Peter Jianrui Liu and his colleague Matthew Katzman, took home the top prize for their cancer detection start-up Oxford Cancer Analytics (OXcAn). The business was recently selected as one of ten start-ups to join the Francis Crick Institute’s KQ Labs accelerator, which supports data analytics biomedical start-ups. Last year, a Jesus team reached the competition’s semi-finals.

This year, ALL applicants will be offered a a place on a one-day intensive virtual bootcamp to help them to develop their ideas. Judges will shortlist the top two applications from each college. These teams will be invited to a virtual selection round in which they will pitch their ideas and receive further mentoring. The final 10 will pitch at the All-Innovate final.

So, if you have a business idea, or want to commercialise your research, and would like help to bring it to life, why not enter now?
