Bradley Wilson Scholarship in Geography and the Environment

The School of Geography and the Environment (SoGE), in partnership with Jesus College Oxford and supported by generosity of Geography alumni Bradley Wilson (1967) and Rodney Wright (1962), is excited to offer one fully funded Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil/PhD) scholarship for UK Black and Mixed-Black applicants. Eligible applicants will be ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom, and of Black or Mixed-Black background.

SoGE and Jesus College aim to attract and admit students with outstanding academic potential irrespective of their background or ability to pay. Commitment to equality and diversity are at the heart of the academic missions of SoGE and Jesus College, and the Bradley Wilson Scholarship in Geography and the Environment will reduce barriers to access to a group currently underrepresented in our doctoral programme.

The studentship will cover three years of University tuition fees along with a maintenance allowance (at standard UKRI rates) and research allowance and will be available starting in the 2022/23 academic year.

Applications are welcome from eligible candidates with a background in Geography or a related social science, physical or environmental discipline in any area of SoGE’s research activity. As a first step, please explore the SoGE website, and get in touch with the member of the academic staff who seems most appropriate to supervise your research; if in doubt, contact the SoGE Director of Graduate Studies, Dr Ian Klinke – ian.klinke@ouce.ox.ac.uk. This initial contact will confirm if that member of staff is able to supervise your research, and if so, will give you advice about how to prepare your application.

Candidates wishing to apply for this scholarship should apply for a place on our DPhil programme in the usual way, by Friday 22 January 2022. This is the deadline for considering all scholarship applications.
