Planning Your Visit

We welcome visitors to Jesus College, but as a working academic institution, there are restrictions on when, and how, you visit us.

Please read the information below before planning your trip.

Getting to Jesus College

While there is no onsite parking at Jesus, the College is just a 10-minute walk from Oxford Train Station, and there are nearby bus stops on the High Street and Magdalen Street, just a few hundred metres away. On Broad Street, you can catch the University buses to annex sites such as Begbroke Science Park.

If you are arriving by bicycle, there are many public cycle racks in adjacent streets, in particular Brasenose Lane, Broad Street, Cornmarket, and Ship Street. Please ensure you bring a secure lock as bike thieves operate across the city.

Our address is Turl Street, Oxford (OX1 3DW)

Alumni visits

Old Members are very welcome to visit the College. Opening times are from 10am – 5.30pm daily, except during the closure periods (ten days at Christmas and seven days at Easter). The only other exceptions to this are when an event is running in College, such as a degree ceremony. To avoid disappointment, please call the Lodge in advance of your visit to check if College will be open, especially when coming from overseas.

What to expect during your visit

Step through the Turl Street gate and into our first quadrangle, which features the Chapel and our Principal’s Lodgings, both of which date back to the College’s founding in 1571 and are still used for their original purpose today.

The first quad at Jesus College.

Visit our stunning Elizabethan Hall, resplendent with portraits of our foundress Queen, former Principals and current Fellows, as well as one of the College’s most well-known alumni – TE Lawrence – otherwise known as Lawrence of Arabia.

Our larger 17th century second quad is home to many of our first-year undergraduates and Fellows. Take a seat on one of the benches that surround the lawn and abundant flower beds to soak up the atmosphere of this unique Oxford college.

The building of the College’s Second Quadrangle began in 1639

If you have any questions about your visit, please do contact the Lodge.
