Stephen Jenkins Bursary Fund receives huge support on launch day

11 September 2025

A new College campaign to raise funds towards an undergraduate student bursary in honour of late alumnus Stephen Jenkins (2005, Geography) has raised over £15,000 in its first 24 hours.

The Stephen Jenkins Bursary Fund launched on Tuesday 9th September to honour the memory of Stephen, who is remembered as a proud Welshman and College sportsman. Tragically, he passed away last year after suffering a cardiac arrest on the finish line at the Cardiff Half Marathon. He was just 37 years old.

Now, in collaboration with Stephen’s friends and family, the College is hoping to raise £100,000 to endow an undergraduate bursary in his name. This bursary will provide life-changing financial support to future Jesus students from Wales. College friend Graeme Smith (2005, Chemistry) says, “I think Stephen would look upon this bursary with a huge sense of pride, and being able to help Welsh students at Jesus College would mean a lot to him.”

Development Director Dr Brittany Wellner-James comments, “We are thrilled at the encouraging response to the campaign launch, and, on behalf of College, I’d like to thank fellow alumni, friends and family of Stephen who have generously supported the bursary fund so far.”
