Professor Tom Douglas is Professor of Applied Philosophy at the University of Oxford and Senior Research Fellow in Philosophy at Jesus College.

Tom Douglas trained in clinical medicine (BMedSc, MBChB, Otago, New Zealand) and philosophy (BA DPhil, Oxford). He is currently Senior Research Fellow and Director of Research and Development in the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics, Faculty of Philosophy; Lead Researcher on the Oxford Martin Programme on Collective Responsibility for Infectious Disease; and Editor of the Journal of Practical Ethics.

Research Interests
Tom’s research lies in normative and practical ethics and currently focusses especially on the use of medical and neuroscientific technologies for non-medical purposes, such as cognitive enhancement, behaviour modification and crime prevention. He is currently Principal Investigator on the European Research Council-funded project ‘Protecting Minds: The Right to Mental Integrity and the Ethics of Arational Influence’.
Other areas of research include the justification of parental partiality, the ethics of behavioural prediction, and reproductive ethics.
