Cheng Yu Tung Building wins Project of the Year at OxPropFest 23

13 September 2023

The College’s Cheng Yu Tung Building has won Project of the Year at the OxPropFest Awards 2023, held at Keble College on Tuesday 12th September.

OxPropFest is a one-day conference that brings together the property, science and innovation community from across Oxfordshire for networking, knowledge sharing and celebration, and is organised by the UK Property Forum. The day culminates in the awards, which showcase the county’s best new building developments and architectural projects across a range of categories including Best Commercial Project, Best Residential Development and Best Low Carbon Project. The judging panel comprises property experts, architects and local innovation leaders, and each project is measured on factors such as its impact on the local area and communities, and its approach to corporate social responsibility, for example climate change mitigation and green spaces.

The Cheng Yu Tung Building, which opened in 2022, was designed by MICA Architects. Located on the corner of Market Street and Cornmarket, adjacent to the College’s historic Oxford site, it combines graduate facilities, indoor and outdoor communal spaces, a café and new fourth quad, state-of-the-art teaching and meeting facilities, and the Cheng Kar Shun Digital Hub. In addition, the new building is also home to the NHS Northgate Health Centre, and new retail units on the Cornmarket aspect.

The building’s award entry was submitted by Bidwells, who acted as Jesus College’s property consultant for the duration of the development programme.
