Why choose Jesus?

So, what can we offer you if you are interested in a postgraduate degree at Jesus College?

Firstly, we are committed to offering you the best possible support for your postgraduate studies, through regular interaction with our Fellows. A postgraduate’s University faculty or department is responsible for overseeing academic progress, appointing a supervisor, and arranging any lectures and classes.

Our graduates are assigned a College Advisor who will usually be one of our Fellows and, as far as possible, working in a similar field. College Advisors provide general academic support and a personal contact within the College, and each year the Principal and Academic Director (who has particular responsibility for postgraduates in College) arrange a short progress review meeting with every student.

Postgraduate students celebrating Black History Month 2022

We create opportunities throughout the year for postgraduates to meet the College’s academic staff, including popular termly talks, and dinners attended by our academics, postgraduates and their guests.

Jesus College is located in the heart of Oxford, making it accessible to departments, faculties, libraries, other University resources, as well as everything that the city has to offer; cafes and restaurants, theatres and cinemas, as well as shops and beautiful parks. Accommodation on the College’s main site is available to all first-year postgraduates.

From 2022, when our new Cheng building opens, we will have an additional 68 bedrooms for postgraduate freshers. The building will also offer a postgraduate study room, café, learning space, multi-faith room, and a new Digital Hub which will facilitate knowledge exchange opportunities and offer postgraduates the opportunity to showcase their research.

We also offer a range of generous allowances, grants and scholarships, including;

  • An £800 per year research allowance (for all postgraduate students with fee liability) to help with the cost of research and study activities such as conference fees and field work
  • Writing-Up Allowance
  • Dedicated postgraduate studentships
  • Graduate Scholarships for on-course students
  •  Book Grants
  • Generous Cultural, Sporting, and Travel Grants

We have a dedicated Graduate Administrator in the College who supports all our postgraduates, and excellent welfare and wellbeing support including an on-site Counsellor and Welfare Officer.
