Gaming and education unite as ESI Next Gen comes to Jesus College

14 September 2023

ESI Next Gen, the premier UK event for professionals, academics, students, and enthusiasts interested in the integration of video games and esports in education, is back for its second edition in March 2024, and in a new collaboration with the Cheng Kar Shun Digital Hub, the event is coming to the University of Oxford for the first time.

Tickets are on sale now and are available here.

Building upon the resounding success of the inaugural edition held at the University of Warwick, ESI Next Gen 2024 is set to be a two-day extravaganza dedicated to exploring the endless possibilities of video games and esports in educational settings. The event promises to be a hub of innovation, knowledge sharing, and networking opportunities for educators, students, industry professionals, and anyone passionate about incorporating gaming and esports in education, both curricular and extra-curricular.

Alongside a full conference day in Oxford, with main stage talks dedicated to learning and collaboration, attendees can delve into breakout sessions and workshops that will provide insights into the latest trends and best practices in integrating gaming and esports into education. ESI Next Gen serves as a unique platform for educators, industry leaders, and students to exchange ideas, share success stories, and explore the rapidly evolving landscape of gaming and esports in education.

“We are thrilled to bring the second edition of ESI Next Gen to the prestigious University of Oxford,” said Sam Cooke, Managing Director of Esports Insider “After a successful debut, we are eager to continue fostering and growing the relationship between academia and the gaming industry. ESI Next Gen 2024 promises to be a catalyst for innovation and collaboration, and we look forward to welcoming participants from across the globe.”

Dr Janina Schupp, SOUTHWORKS Career Development Fellow of the Digital Hub at Jesus College, Oxford says, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with ESI on Next Gen 2024, and to be hosting the event here in Oxford as part of our Cheng Kar Shun Digital Hub programme. The connections between esports and education are multifarious. For example, the study of esports and gaming, in the context of history, society and culture, is a rapidly growing field of interdisciplinary academic research, as is the technological innovation that underpins them. There is also growing research evidence for the potential of esports and gaming as a conduit to developing knowledge and educational skills such as critical thinking, digital creativity and digital literacy.

“Next Gen 2024 provides a unique opportunity to explore these themes further, and will allow us to collectively strengthen the relationship between the gaming industry and academia.”
