Services and Events

Jesus College Chapel is the venue for many events and services throughout the year.

The most recent Term Card, including details of speakers and events, is available here.

Jesus College has a diverse but very united community of Christians. Whether you are new to College or have been here a while you are always welcome to any of our events. If you are not a Christian or are from another faith background you are also very welcome. If you would like to find a place of worship for your own faith or denomination, the Chaplain will be glad to help.

Sunday Evensong is the main service of the week for the College, with beautiful music and excellent speakers. You are all very welcome, whether you are a Christian, exploring the Christian faith, or would simply like to come to hear the speakers and the music. The service starts at 5.45 pm in Chapel. Due to the ongoing pandemic, Evensong this term will also be streamed live on our Facebook page, and later uploaded to our YouTube channel.

Morning Prayer is a time when the Chapel is booked from 9-9.30am for quiet prayer. When a student or the Chaplain is present to lead it, we follow a modern Church of England service, praying for all members of College and the wider world. Otherwise all are welcome to make the most of this meditative time in their own ways, using the resources available, as a way to start the day well.

The Church of England offers online resources, including texts, podcasts, and an app, for anyone who would like to start their day in quiet prayer.

The Eucharist, or Holy Communion, is an important service for Christians.

A simple, modern service of Holy Communion takes place in the Chapel on Sunday at 8.30am and Tuesday at 6.15pm, to which all are welcome.

This is an opportunity to find some stillness and focus in the middle of the week. Although some of the meditations are drawn from the Christian tradition, no particular faith background is assumed or expected.

Meditation takes place in the Multifaith Room at 4.30 on a Wednesday afternoon.

Compline, or ‘Night Prayer,’ is a simple and beautiful sung service of psalms and prayers for the end of the day.

We hope to re-introduce this service during Michaelmas Term 2023.

The Christian Union is a group of Christian students at Jesus College with the aim of giving every student in college the opportunity to hear and respond to the message of Jesus Christ.

They host a Bible Study from 8-9pm each Wednesday. For further details, see the CU Link Tree.

The Roman Catholic Chaplaincy offers support to Catholic students throughout the University, including a termly Mass for each College.

In Michaelmas Term 2023, College Mass is on Wednesday of Third Week (October 25th), at 6pm in Chapel. For more details, see the Chaplaincy website.
