Academic Background
John Magorrian obtained his BSc in Applied Maths and Physics from Queen’s University, Belfast, and DPhil in Physics from Oxford. He has held postdoctoral positions at the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics and at Cambridge. In 2000, he was awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship held initially at Durham, but later transferred to Oxford.
Undergraduate Teaching
Tutorials: quantum mechanics (second year), astrophysics and fluids (third year). Lecturing: classical mechanics short option.
Research Interests
Dynamics of galaxies: understanding the effects of supermassive black holes; developing methods to map galaxies’ internal structure from incomplete observations.
