Academic Background
DPhil MRCP
I studied pre-clinical medicine followed by an MRes in molecular mycobacteriology at the University of St Andrews prior to completing my clinical studies in London (Bart’s and The London). I then was an academic foundation doctor in Oxford and subsequently completed an MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship funded DPhil on the molecular epidemiology of Gram-negative bloodstream infections. I am currently an NIHR academic clinical fellow as well as a registrar in Medical Microbiology/Infectious Diseases. In general I am interested in combined analysis of electronic healthcare record and genomic data, including the epidemiology of bloodstream infections and associated AMR and plasmids as well as developing methods to better predict AMR phenotype from genotype. I am co-lead of the NEKSUS study, a multicentre prospective study funded by UKHSA to investigate the molecular epidemiology of key Gram-negative pathogens and genotypes in England. I am also the Oxford clinical lead of a collaboration with UKHSA to investigate the epidemiology of antibiotic resistance in Gram-negative bloodstream infections in England.
Undergraduate Teaching
Bedside tutorials for final year medical students.
Postgraduate Teaching
I currently co-supervise one DPhil student.
Research Interests
Molecular epidemiology of pathogenic bacteria
Other Interests
I sing with the Holst Singers and otherwise spend my free time running, tending to my orchard or trying to learn the bagpipe
