Professional Background

I was appointed Executive Director of Research Services at the University of Oxford in 2018. I lead a team of 150 professional staff providing research and innovation support services across the University.

Our responsibilities include research strategy and policy, external funding for research, research-related contracts, clinical trials and human tissue governance, human research ethics and research integrity, intellectual property management, regional partnerships in research and innovation, and public engagement with research.

As Executive Director of Research Services, I am part of the University Registrar’s senior leadership team and I work closely with the Pro-Vice-Chancellors for Research and for Innovation.

Prior to taking up my current role, I was Director of Research & Academic Strategy at The Open University. I led a unit responsible for research strategy and support services, knowledge exchange and commercialisation, postgraduate research, curriculum strategy, and academic strategy and planning.

I have also held a number of previous roles at the University of Oxford including as Associate Director, Research Services and Head of Strategic Planning & Resources in the Social Sciences Division.

Before moving into a career in university management I worked as a research scientist in the chemicals industry.
