Academic and Professional Background
BSc, MSc, FRICS
I was appointed as the University of Oxford’s Director of Estates in March 2012. I was responsible for providing vision, leadership and management to ensure the effective and efficient development and delivery of Estates related services within the University’s estate whilst contributing to the University’s wider strategic development. The functional estate comprises over 250 buildings, nearly 655,000sqm of gross internal floor space and a significant proportion of Listed Buildings.
The services managed by my team were wide and diverse and included the management of all new building projects; the refurbishment, repair and maintenance of buildings, infrastructure and green spaces; Facilities Management for a growing number of University buildings; management and the allocation of buildings and spaces within the University; maintenance of all property records; management of the University’s commercial, agricultural and residential land and property assets; care of the University Parks and Wytham Woods; accommodation for graduate students; reduction of the University’s environmental impact and maintaining a safe and secure physical environment for staff, students and visitors.
Before arriving at Oxford, I spent over 10 years working in the Estates team at the University of Leicester, first as the Deputy Director of Estates and for the last five and a half years as the Director of Estates. Prior to joining the University of Leicester, I worked in both private practice and the public sector.
I have a BSc in Building Surveying and an MSc in Construction Management. I was elected a Professional Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1991, before being elected as a Fellow in 2006. Until recently I served as a member of the British Library’s Capital Projects Committee and had served since 2005.
I was a member of Jesus College’s Governing Body and the Estates Committee. I am currently a member of the Property and Environment Committees.
