Academic Background
Professor Powell is Professor of Digital Health Care in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences.
I graduated in Social and Political Sciences (MA) and Clinical Medicine (MB BChir) from the University of Cambridge, before undertaking a MSc and PhD at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. I trained in psychiatry and public health medicine. I am a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health and a Fellow of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics. I am a NIHR Senior Investigator, and expert advisor to national agencies including NICE and the MHRA.
Graduate Teaching
I am the Academic Director of the Masters in Applied Digital Health at the University of Oxford, I also contribute to the Executive Masters in Global Healthcare Leadership. I supervise a number of DPhil students working on digital health topics.
Research Interests
My area is digital health, including studies of how the connected world of digital-enabled health care is changing how patients and the public interact with services and manage their own health; and studies evaluating digital health interventions.
Other Interests
I have worked as a comedy writer for BBC Radio and as a television drama advisor where my credits include Downton Abbey, Spanish Flu: The Forgotten Fallen, SSGB and the movie Ammonite.
