Nelson J Carr Career Development Fellowship (CDF) for Academic Skills Support

Salary: The salary is on Grade 7 (National Spine Point from 29, currently £36,024 - £44,263 per annum). Free meals in College, USS pension, research allowance of £1,000 per annum, and a Study Skills Book Allowance of £250 per annum are also offered.

Jesus College Oxford invites applications for the Nelson J Carr Career Development Fellowship for Academic Skills Support, tenable full-time for a fixed term of four years from 1 September 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Fellowship is intended for an early-career scholar who wishes to contribute to the academic development of students at the College alongside their postdoctoral research.

40% of the Fellow’s time will be devoted to research and publication in their chosen academic field. 60% to on-course academic skills provision. The duties of the post are outlined in the Further Particulars.

The successful candidate will have a good first degree or an equivalent qualification; be in possession of a doctorate in a subject that the College takes students for at either undergraduate or postgraduate level (awarded since 1 September 2019), or close to completion; ; have a coherent proposed research programme for the duration of the Fellowship, of a standard which will contribute to and enhance the national and international profile of the field in the University; have a record of publications and other output demonstrating research expertise in the field, appropriate to the career stage of the applicant; have experience of teaching at undergraduate level and of designing individual sessions as well as teaching small groups; have excellent oral and written presentation and communication skills; demonstrate commitment to building strong, cooperative and supportive relationships with students and academic staff at the College and with colleagues across the collegiate University and demonstrate a commitment to the aims, objectives, and academic values of Jesus College.

The College will seek references at a shortlisting stage. There is no need for referees to send in a reference prior to being contacted.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place on Friday, 10 May 2024. If interviews are conducted in-person, reasonable interview expenses will be reimbursed, and overnight accommodation can be offered if required. Interviews may be conducted remotely.
