Gordon Moss (1968, Geography)

Back in the mists of time, in my second year, I was the captain of the Jesus soccer team of 1969/70.  We had a very good side and managed to win the Division One title by being unbeaten, while our deadly rivals, Teddy Hall, lost to, I think, Exeter.

In the Hilary term, players that had been part of the Blues squad became available, and our rivals had more of them than we did.  We met in the Cuppers final, where Jesus had great support at Iffley Road, possibly because we provided a barrel of beer in the College bar beforehand.  I remember that my tutor, Ernest Paget, was in the stand.  ‘We woz robbed’ when the ref disallowed a perfectly good goal for offside, and we went down 2-1.

We had a very strong squad in my three years, with six Blues, while about half of the rest played for the University second team at one time or another.

I loved my time at College and the soccer was a big part of it until I knuckled down to work in my final year.
