Cheng Yu Tung Building wins at Civic Trust Awards

10 April 2024

The Cheng Yu Tung Building has won an architectural design award at the Civic Trust Awards 2024; the latest accolade for Jesus College’s award-winning new building.

The Civic Trust Awards (CTAs) scheme was established in 1959 to recognise outstanding architecture, planning and design in the built environment. This year, the scheme selected just 22 winning projects from over 320 projects entered across the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Lithuania, Malta, Poland and the US.

The Cheng Yu Tung Building, which was designed by MICA Architects and completed in 2022, was highly praised by the CTA judges for successfully realising ‘the principles of openness, legibility, and informality, which are fundamental to the College’s approach. Its versatile spaces encourage various uses and engagement and plans for public lectures and events within the auditorium area highlight the College’s commitment to community outreach and civic involvement.'”

They added,“This building stands not only as a functional and sustainable asset for the College but also as a dynamic and integrated contributor to the broader Oxford community.”

There to collect the award at the CTA Ceremony in Manchester were MICA architects Mandy Franz and Stuart Cade, along with colleagues Jonathan Evans and Jacob Spence.
