College statement on the Ukraine crisis

2 March 2022

The current conflict in Ukraine is foremost in the minds of everyone in the Jesus College community at this time. Our thoughts are especially focused on those Fellows, students and staff most directly impacted by the shocking events taking place. Jesus College stands in solidarity with the people of all nations who are affected by the Russian Government’s actions, and with the Ukrainian citizens, fellow academics and students who are in immediate danger.

Through the University, discussions are taking place with the Council for At-Risk Academics (Cara) about providing support for academics in Ukraine in immediate danger of arrest, injury and even death.

To provide direct and rapid help to those at risk, the College is supporting the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal. The appeal enables the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to continue to respond to existing and emerging humanitarian needs, both during the conflict and in the years ahead.
