College welcomes new Tutorial Fellow in Philosophy

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Jean Baccelli as a new Tutorial Fellow in Philosophy at Jesus College, and as an Associate Professor of Philosophy of Economics in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Oxford.

Following Philosophy studies at Ecole normale supérieure – Ulm (ENS, 2005) and a year at Harvard University (2009-2010), Jean received his PhD in Philosophy from ENS in 2016. After his PhD and before joining us, Jean held postdoctoral fellowships at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (MCMP), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (2016-2019 and 2020-2021), and the Center for Philosophy of Science, University of Pittsburgh (2019-2020). He has taught philosophy at ENS (2011-2014) and the MCMP (2017-2019), as well as economics at Université Cergy-Pontoise (2014-2016).

Jean’s main research interests are in decision theory (especially under risk and uncertainty), social choice theory, and the philosophy of economics. He also has research interests in the general philosophy of science (especially measurement) and formal epistemology. His work has been published in journals such as Philosophical Studies, The Review of Symbolic Logic, Synthese, the British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, Erkenntnis, Studies in History and Philosophy of Science, Theory and Decision, and the Journal of Economic Methodology.

Of his new role with us, Jean says: “I am thrilled to be joining Jesus College at such a special time of celebrations and exciting new challenges. I cannot wait to start working with its brilliant students and staff members.”

He will join the Fellowship on October 1st 2021.
