The Peter Beaconsfield Prize is awarded annually by the University of Oxford Medical Sciences Division, to young Oxford researchers who are working at the translational interface of scientific research and clinical practice. The Prize is open to postgraduate students in Physiological Sciences (registered in the department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, Pharmacology, Pathology, Biochemistry or Experimental Psychology). The winner receives a prize of £1000 and the runner-up £500.

Tabea is a graduate student in Professor Christoph Tang’s group, based at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology. The group studies the human adapted pathogens, Neisseria meningitidis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Shigella spp. The Tang Lab investigates how these important pathogens survive in their host and interact other members of the microbiome. They also investigate the mechanisms underlying the maintenance of plasmids, as they can confer virulence and antimicrobial resistance in these bacteria.
