Peter North Fund

The Peter North Fund is open to current Law students of Jesus College. Awards are made to those still engaged in academic study as graduate or undergraduate students on the basis of financial need. The aim is to support students in their pursuit of academic study at the College.

The Sankey Fund Committee (which administers the Peter North Fund) will give preference to candidates in the following order:

  1. Those reading for the BCL/MJur and who are studying the Conflict of Laws;
  1. Failing that, those reading for the BCL/M.Jur, or any other degree which, in the opinion of the Governing Body, is of comparable standing, even if that individual is not studying the Conflict of Laws;
  1. Failing that, those reading for the Final Honour School of Jurisprudence or any School allied therewith;
  1. Failing that, those reading for some other Final Honour School.

How do I apply?

The Law Fellows will circulate a call for applications, with instructions, usually in Michaelmas Term. There will likely be an interview. Interviews perform two functions. They allow the Committee Members to understand the candidate’s financial position, and to discuss the candidate’s ambitions and interests. Interviews typically last around 10-15 minutes.

How much might I get?

It is not necessarily the case that everyone who applies will succeed. For those who do, awards vary depending on a number of factors, including i) the available funds in a given year; ii) the number and quality of the applicants; and iii) the need of the individual applicant.

I applied to the fund before – can I apply again?

Yes, so long as you continue to meet the criteria. The Committee will take into account any previous award that you have received when considering your application.
