College launches Women in Sciences Day for Welsh schools students

22 May 2024

Jesus College’s Access & Outreach team has opened applications for its 2024 Women in Sciences Day, which invites young women* in Year 12 at Welsh state schools to experience life as a science student at university.

The Women in Sciences Day, which takes place on Friday 28th June and is free, gives attendees the opportunity to participate in a day of academic taster sessions that explore the wide variety of scientific study available at university. The taster sessions are designed to give them a sample of university-style teaching, and stretch the content that students have started to cover in their A Levels. Subjects from across the Medical Sciences Division and the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division will be represented.

In addition, participating school students will be able to stay at Jesus College the night before the Women in Sciences Day, to experience what it’s like to live in real student halls of residence.

The initiative forms part of the 2024 University of Oxford Open Days. Participants will attend the Oxford Open Day on Thursday 27th June, and then stay in Jesus accommodation that night. The Women in Sciences Day takes place from 09:00-13:00 on Friday 28th June.

The deadline for submitting an application is 23:59 on Friday 31st May 2024, and applicants will be notified of their decision approximately one week later. For all information on the Women in Sciences Day, including the application form, click here.
