Academic Background
BA (Chemistry) - Magdalen College, Oxford - 1993-1997
PhD - Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge - 1997-2001 (with Prof Andrew B Holmes FRS)
Postdoctoral work
The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA - 2001-2003 (with Prof Erik J Sorensen)
University of Cambridge - 2003-2007 (with Prof Ian Paterson FRS)
EPSRC Advanced Research Fellow, Oxford - 2007 to date
Undergraduate Teaching
Organic Chemistry.
Research Interests
Synthetic organic chemistry: our work is based on the development of new synthetic methods, and on the total synthesis of bioactive molecules. We are particularly interested in complexity-inducing reactions such as cascade or sequenced processes, where several chemical steps take place in a single reaction process, and the application of these reactions in synthesis.

Family
My wife Emma is a lecturer in virology at Warwick University. We have recently had a baby boy called Owen!
Hobbies
Outside of chemistry, I enjoy running, cycling, swimming, hiking and gardening - although I don't have as much time for all of these as I used to!
